This weekend is my very first date weekend, and I honestly couldn’t be more excited. To say I’m enjoying every second would be a drastic understatement. I didn’t know that I would come to England and fall in love. I knew I was coming for school, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine ending up where I am.
This weekend I’m in Bath, England with the Love of my life.
Yes, I mean Jesus.
I’m not trying to be spiritual or come across as cheesy, but I felt so overwhelmed by life and the prospect of what needs to get done in the next two months that I slipped into a rut.
So, after a week of really pursuing Christ, I heard Him whisper to my spirit, “Come away with Me.” My Jesus, the King Who died for my sins and now sits at the right hand of the throne of God, wanted a weekend away with me. Who am I to even warrant His attention? What have I ever done to turn His face toward me, to incline His ear to my voice?
Absolutely nothing. But in His great love for me, He called me out and set me apart as His daughter and disciple.
I don’t want us to lose sight of God’s strength and might, His power and glory, but I also don’t want us to minimize His immeasurable love toward us.
During our time together so far the Lord has laid on my heart to get BATH (back) to the basics of faith, to stop over-complicating things and learn to experience Him in the simple, everyday.
Behold: Seek God and learn to see Him, to recognize the work of His hand. We need to stop running and begin to walk, enjoying His guidance and listening to His heart.
Attitude: Come to Him willing to hear from Him and be challenged. Allow Him to develop you in your walk. Don’t come with a hardened, self-seeking heart and then expect God to speak.
Thanks: Learn to say “Thank You” again. He has done so much for us, and He is eternally faithful. He is our strength and redemption, the very Purpose for why we breathe! Thank Him for the profound truths as well as the simple. For the green grass and another day of life, the troubles that bring you closer to Him and the victories that exalt His name!
Humility: Remember who He is. He is the Lover of our souls and our Faithful Father, but He is also Righteous Judge and Sovereign King. His grace is not something to take for granted or to run into the ground. He is worthy of our undivided attention and praise, and He will not tolerate continued, intentional sin.
Friends, I honestly believe God wants us to get away with Him, to deeply seek intimacy with Him. Our God is jealous for our hearts and affection. Get back to the basics of faith and remember what it was like when you first met the Lord. Amen.
